Serving as Brooklyn Branch President for nearly a decade, the Branch became the largest in New York—known for its intergenerational, diverse membership and powerful local impact.
Rooted in Black civil rights tradition and a deep belief in the NAACP’s mission, L. Joy uses her platform to advance civil rights—with clarity and conviction—from fighting voter suppression to defending public education.
As New York State Conference President, L. Joy has strengthened branch activism, expanded training, and set a course for building strong, intergenerational branches that advocate, litigate, and agitate to build lasting community power.
